Vets - News & Results 2024
County Vets Autumn Trophies held at Minchinhampton GC on Thursday 26th September 2024
As I set off from home in pouring rain - fearful of what lay ahead after 2 days of torrential rain earlier in the week - I was delighted to arrive at Minchinhampton in brilliant sunshine and to learn that it was all systems go!!
69 ladies had signed up to play in the Competition but unfortunately we had several withdrawals on the day - none weather related - and only 60 actually played.
Apart from one heavy shower in the middle of the day the ladies all enjoyed their rounds and some good scores were recorded.
I would like to thank Minchinhampton for hosting the event and especially Graham who helped out as Starter at the last minute with absolutely no warning - he did a great job.
Once again Carole Greenup helped by putting the Start Sheet on the Website and then came to Minchinhampton to enter the scores on the computer, finalise the Competition and send the results to the website, even though they are on the Fixtures page and not the Results page!! Many thanks Carole.

9 hole Texas Scramble at Filton Golf Club on Monday 16/9/2024
On a sunny and warm September day 27 Vets met at Filton Golf Club to play in the annual 9- hole competition. The format was a Texas Scramble with a difference. Under a new arrangement at Filton Ladies aged 80+ could play off blue tees, whilst others played from the red tees. Teams of three set off determined to enjoy the day and this they did all returning to the club house with smiles and anecdotes about their game. Sandwiches and chips were appreciated before the prize giving. Amazingly all 9 teams came in with scores within 4 points.
Nearest the Pin from away teams was won by Ann Lanyon of Cotswold Edge and Fiona Veale of Filton won for the home team.
COUNTY VETS SUMMER BOWMAKER held at LILLEY BROOK GC on Wednesday 28th August 2024
The weather was fair with one shower of rain but otherwise a very good day. 120 ladies - 40 teams - took part with 100% attendance on the day. Excellent!!
Grateful thanks must go to Lilley Brook GC for hosting the event and especially to Nick Ellis, General Manager, and Sue Jordan, County Vets Rep and Ladies Vice Captain, for all their hard work behind the scenes. The Starters and Ball Spotters did a great job and we must not forget the Caterers and Bar Staff who changed their shifts at short notice and did a great job keeping us fed and watered.
As usual the ever efficient Carole Greenup of the GLCGA was on hand to input the scores and send the final result to the website for us all to see.

Gloucs Vets v Oxfordshire at Lansdown GC 16th August 2024
Both teams were greeted with a warm and sunny day at Lansdown GC and fortunately the weather was on our side throughout the day. Ten Gloucestershire clubs were represented.
After being welcomed by Vets Captain, Chris Park, the first group ventured out at 11am. Lansdown was in good condition and although long and straight it is also very flat! ( A factor much appreciated by everyone on a warm day). However, a couple of tricky par 3's presented a dilemma with choice of club and decisions were quickly made to take provisionals!
An excellent rolling two course meal followed the golf and gave us all an opportunity to catch up.
Oxfordshire were tough opponents and although some of the matches went close to the wire they won the match 2-6. Congratulations to Sheila Burridge and Megan Mills - the only pair to win their game! Myself and Sue DeBarro and Deb Hill and Racheal Paul managed a halve.
Many thanks to everyone who played - look forward to seeing some of you at the next match.

Gloucestershire vs Wiltshire
Report of Match 3 Gloucestershire away to Wiltshire at Broome Manor Golf Club Swindon.
Every player did enjoy the games except it was non stop rain, the greens did start filling up
And some of the fairways were getting waterlogged. All the ladies battled on to finish at 13th
hole which was the nearest to the clubhouse.
The result was a win for us Gloucestershire 41/2 to 3 ½ this was great well done all the players.
The meal was Sandwiches /Salad Quiche, and Homemade scones and cream
Lets hope that is the last wet day we get.

Match Report Gloucs v Warwickshire 13th May 2024
A fantastic outing in reasonably good weather (we got in before the rain came!) to beautiful Edgbaston Golf Club to meet a very credible Warwickshire team who had playing handicaps of between 10 and 22 and were out to win!
Our team was represented by 10 clubs from across Gloucestershire with wide ranging handicaps - all of whom were playing this wonderful course for the first time. Considering 6 out of the 16 Ladies from Warcs were members at the host club we did really well to win this fixture by 5 games to 3 with some very hard fought games!
The meal of either lamb or risotto and a delicious cheesecake was much appreciated after our rounds - all seated in the beautiful clubhouse.
A really enjoyable day with great company. As one Gloucs lady commented “ I had not met my playing partner before and we really gelled; which is why these matches are so much funâ€.
A big well done and thanks to everyone who played and I look forward to seeing you again soon.

Was a Win for Somerset 7-0
The weather was really kind to us and Stopped raining as we were ready to tee off it turned out to be
A very sunny enjoyable day, the food was very good and everyone had some hard- fought matches.
Everyone who played did have a really good time and enjoyed the course and the game of golf.
But Wells Golf Club was not an easy course very hilly and always on a slope.
4 Players from the Gloucestershire team dropped out on the Tuesday before the match all players did have good reasons for not being able to play, which made it very difficult to get replacements, so unfortunately 3 players played on there own which is a hard format when you do not know the course.
Brockworth Salver 2024
Thursday 9th May 2024, Brickhampton Court GC
On a beautiful cloudless, bright, sunny day 90 ladies arrived (of which 21 were from the Home club) keen to play our first Competition of the year. Following recent serious flooding of the course there were still several rather boggy areas but all the ladies finished in good time and high spirits.
Our thanks go to Brickhampton Court GC for hosting the event and all the help given by Jo Browne in making sure that we were well looked after on the day was greatly appreciated.
Thanks go to Seniors Vice Captain Mark and to Philomena McCarthy for taking on the job of Starter throughout the morning
When the time came to enter the results on the IG system, we encountered a problem in that the system didn't recognise the new ladies Green tees and Stroke Indexes. Luckily, Brickhampton Court uses different software which was set up for their course and, with the help of Kerry Brimfield, Carole was able to reset the competition on their system and run it through that, knowing the results would be correct and your scores would go through to the WHS. We couldn't have done this without her so very many thanks to Kerry. Also grateful thanks to Carole Greenup who was able to work with Kerry to achieve this result.
Although the full results are on the website here is a list of the main winners-

Eve will be finishing shortly afterwards and we have had many happy years doing this and meeting some lovely people and making lots of new friends. Thank you Eve and all of you lovely Vets for making this such a special time for me.
