The annual Girls versus Gloucestershire Boys match started in the cold and ended in the cold, with everyone welcoming a hot chocolate when we got back to the clubhouse.
With a couple of last minute changes on both sides, the match was led out by Mariella Buchanan and Neveah Clarke (in her first Gloucestershire Girls match) and they battled to get their match back to level by the 13th hole, but eventually lost 3&1.
Our second pairing of Neve Jeffery and Poppy Rowe found themselves 3 dn through 9, but by the 13th they had got it back to level and by the 18th they had secured a halved match.
Taylor Hodgson and Emma Mao were 1up through 9 and 2up through 13 and that's how their match ended with a 2up win.
Rosie Boyle and Jasmine Ren had to wait to the 18th to secure their halved match in a hard fought match that kept flip flopping 1 up, 1dn. Great perseverance girls!
Our fifth pairing of Frances Sullivan and Ezme Counsell got off to a great start and were always up in their match winning 4&2.
In our 6th match, Zoey Van De Merwe and Scarlett Rowe, who we had to bring into the team last minute had a challenging match and found themselves 5 down through 9 and dormy 6 but they dug deep and won 3 holes on the trot, eventually losing their match 3&1.
The overall result was a friendly half which was a great improvement on last year's result and hopefully next year, we can get the win.
Thanks to GGU for organising the match, to Pat Murphy (GGU Vice President) for starting, to Mark Powell, Richard Salter and Dereck Buttler from the GGU and to Pat Righton and Debbie (& Neil) Casling from GLCGA who came along to support both teams. Thanks to all the parents who walked the course - the girls had to play in the cold, but it was great to see such commitment from the parents, who suffered the wintery conditions but still supported the players!
Thanks to Cleeve Hill and the members for hosting the match and to the caterers, who provided us with hot drinks and a great meal after the match.
