Gloucestershire Ladies County Golf Association
Veterans' Section Trophy Information for Competitions

The Brockworth Salver

The Brockworth Salver was donated and presented to the Veterans’ Section in 1966 by the Past Committee of The Gloucester Golf Club at Brockworth. In the 1970’s three members of the 1944 Committee, Mrs Mary Walwyn, Mrs Pat Voyce and Mrs Martin met and agreed to purchase some silver for a County Competition for the Veterans section with some money remaining in the Ladies account when the course closed. The salver was purchased second hand for £25 from jeweller Mr May in Gloucester.

It is played for at the Spring Meeting in May. It was originally a medal competition but is now a Stableford Competition. The first winner of the trophy, played at Stinchcombe was Mrs Mary Walwyn, a former member of the Brockworth Club. The club the Old Gloucester Club had been taken over in 1944 as an aircraft factory and the golf club was abandoned.

The trophy is awarded to the overall winner, but other prizes are awarded in divisions.

The Autumn Trophies

In 1967 Mary Little proposed a Championship to be held in the Autumn. She presented the Mrs B Little, Autumn Trophy for the best Gross Score. It is known as The Little Salver.

Originally it was held at the same time as the Lady Marling Medal but the County and Vets separated their competitions in 1967.

Between 1987 and 1992 it was held as a Stableford competition. In 1994 it was agreed that the Little Salver would be for the Gross Champion and the Wine Coaster would be for the gross winner of the bronze division. Fields would then be divided into divisions for the remaining nett prizes together with an over 75 prize. In 2018 a consolation Stableford was reintroduced for both bronze and silver divisions.

Bronze Championship

The Wine Coaster was purchased in 1986 by the Veterans Society although it is sometimes known as the Little Coaster. It is played for at the Autumn Trophy and awarded for the best gross score in the bronze division.

Summer Bowmaker

The Summer Bowmaker is a team competition introduced in 2008 because of members requests for an extra competition. The Waterford Crystal Trophy was first played for in 2009 and purchased by the Veteran Society. It was stolen in 2018 and replaced with an engraved crystal bowl.

It is a team competition played as a Stableford with two scores counting.

North v South

The Team Trophy is played between the North v South  The original trophy was a Wedgewood vase given by Jean Marsham. THis match has been altered slightly so the teams wil be led by the captain and vice captain and the clubs are more evenly divided with Gloucester being the centre.

Muriel Button

The clock barometer was bought with a legacy of £100 to mark the Vets Silver Jubilee in 1990. It is played as a best nett differential score during July on the home course and is usually combined with the July medal. The trophy is awarded for the best overall score with prizes also awarded in silver and bronze divisions

The Vets Reps return the best three scores from each division and competition fees by the 7th of August.

Millennium Trophy

The Millennium Trophy was bought by the Vets to celebrate the year 2000 and is played for during May at clubs. It is a Stableford competition and combined with a club competition.

In 2000 the winner was presented with a Bristol Blue Goblet as a keepsake.

The trophy is presented for the best overall score with other silver and bronze prizes also presented.

The Vets Reps return the best three scores from each division and competition fees by the 7th of June.
